Skincare is often an overlooked area when it comes to our grooming routine. We are either too lazy or simply overwhelmed and confused by the plethora of skincare products available in the market. Knowing all too well the challenges that us guys face, Tiege Hanley sought to create an uncomplicated skincare system for men that takes away all the guesswork.
For those of you who follow Men’s Style channels, you might already familiar with the Tiege Hanley brand. Tiege Hanley is co-founded by none other than the Men’s Style Youtuber Alpha M. Since the launch of Tiege Hanley a few years back, it has created quite a lot of hype and amassed a pretty large following.
Recently, I was sent a sample of the level 3 system (the highest tier) by the Tiege Hanley team for review. I have used the products for about a month and I would like to share with you my honest opinion and see if they are worth the hype.
Let’s start off by going through each of the products in the system.
Daily Face Wash (Level 1-3)
The Daily Face Wash worked well for me. The face wash was gentle without causing any irritation. There is a slight hint of Eucalyptus as Eucalyptus oil is one of the ingredients.
Facial Exfoliating Scrub (Level 1-3)
The Facial Exfoliating Scrub contains crushed apricot seeds which help exfoliating and remove dead cells in your skin. The Facial Exfoliating Scrub is only meant to be used twice a week. I really enjoyed the cooling sensation after putting on the Facial Exfoliating Scrub, it makes the face feel completely rejuvenated.
Facial Firming Super Serum (Level 3)
The Super Serum is Tiege Hanley’s flagship product which is only offered at the level 3 system. The anti-aging serums help tighten up your skin, fend off wrinkles and hydrates your skin.
When you initially apply the serum to your face, there is a slightly funky smell. Do not worry too much as the smell fades away almost immediately.
The serum is like a lotion-like consistency. The instructions suggest using one pump per application, but I feel I need a little bit more to cover my entire face.
Anti-Aging Eye Cream (Level 2-3)
The Anti-Aging Eye Cream aims to reduce dark circles, fine lines and crow’s feet. The texture of the eye cream is quite thick to my surprise.
I haven’t an Eye Cream consistently before, so this is something new for me. Overall I am quite pleased with the product as I notice a slight reduction in dark circles and puffiness in my eyes.
AM/PM Moisturizer (Level 1-3)
The AM and PM Moisturizers are two separate products because they serve different purposes.
The AM Moisturizer contains SPF 20 protection, so you don’t need to put sunscreen on your face. I for one don’t like putting sunscreen on my face because it makes my face feel greasy. The AM Moisturizer strikes a good balance by providing SPF protection without being greasy. There is a slight lavender scent as lavender oil is one of the ingredients.
The PM Moisturizer, on the other hand, has a thicker texture. It does feel a bit oily in the more hot and humid months. It doesn’t bother me too much as I will wash everything off in the morning. I am fine as long as it does its job which is to hydrate and repair your skin
Approximately two weeks into using the product, I noticed some acne breakouts on my face. I have seen other reviewers have a similar experience so I wasn’t too worried, but I still contacted the Tiege team to inform them about my experience.
The Tiege team explained to me that it might take some time for my skin to get adjusted to the products. Of course, there is also the possibility that I might be allergic to some of the ingredients. As a note of caution, do not proceed using the product if you are experiencing severe allergic reactions.
Fortunately for me, the acne situation slowly went away after an additional week of using the product.
In terms of usage, the contents in one system are supposed to last you approximately one month. However, I had plenty of product remaining after close to one month of usage. If you were to subscribe to the product, I recommend replenishing every 45 or 60 days instead of the standard 30 days.
The pricing structure is as follows:
Level 1: US$25- Facewash + Scrub + AM/PM Moisturizer
Level 2: US$35 – Level 1 + Eye Cream
Level 3: US$45 – Level 2 + Super Serum
I recommend going for at least Level 2, or Level 3 for the best value. The level 1 items are good quality products, but they are fairly generic items where you can easily find alternatives. Eye Creams and Serums, on the other hand, are more premium items, the typical eye cream and serum may cost more than the entire system itself.
The Tiege Hanley system undoubtedly simplified the skincare routine for the everyday busy man. The subscription model takes all the guesswork and trouble away. Every 30-60 days you will be your skincare items will be replenished automatically.
While the concept of the subscription model is convenient, it lacks the flexibility of ordering products separately. For instance, if I ran out of a certain product, I would either have to re-order the entire system immediately or not be able to use that product again until the next shipment arrives. This also means that unfortunately, you are not able to order specific products that you are interested in. I personally would love the option to purchase the Eye Cream and Super Serum separately. Hopefully, the option of purchasing individual items will be available in the future.
I also love that the products are in travel-friendly sizes. This is perfect because your skincare routine will not be interrupted when you travel. There have been countless times where I’ve had to leave a skincare product behind because it could not fit in my Dopp kit.
